SACNista of the Month
April 2020:
Fabiola Juárez Jaramillo, PhD Student Fabiola is a first year graduate student in the Structural Biology and Biochemistry program. Fabiola was born in Guanajuato, México. Twelve years after her father passed away, at age fifteen and without knowing English, Fabiola immigrated to the United States with her family looking for a better future. In high school, she enrolled in English as Second Language classes and later pursued nursing at Santa Barbara City College. Intrigued by her father’s fatal disease, Fabiola embarked on an academic journey that culminated with her current studies in Structural Biology and Biochemistry. As a first-generation college student, Fabiola knows the challenges faced by minorities in STEM and understands the need to expose them to science careers. Fabiola served as Treasurer and Vice President for the SACNAS Chapter at her alma mater, Cal State L.A. She planned and executed workshops including Conversations with Scientists and Writing in STEM Series. Fabiola aspires to become a scientific leader, practices yoga and enjoys quiet time just as much as a good conversation over a good drink. She has been an active SACNAS member for 6 years! We are proud and happy to have her here at Anschutz. |
